Tanditional Chinese Xieyi landscape painting does not depict the real visible world but an imaginary one.
Xie means writing and Yi means thoughts or spirit of the artist. Yi comes before Xie.
As an example: In this artwork "Life like a Snowflake", the scenery of winter and snow have been created by Yi.
