About Me and My Artworks

Hi, I am Kat Ling (格寧) , a self-employed Chinese calligraphy and painting artist who currently lives in Germany. I am a drop of water which has been falling in love with the Chinese Ink Art.

Everyone has their own dreams. I also believe everyone has their own talent and has to discover the own natural endowment. When I was nearly 30 years old, I was fascinated by traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. It was like being new born and I started learning. After finishing “Diploma Programme in Chinese calligraphy” and “Diploma Programme in Ink Painting – Flowers and Birds” in CUSCS (School of Continuing and Professional Studies , The Chinese University of Hong Kong), I had followed Master Jimmy ShiuPun Kwan personally by studying freehand brush flowers and landscape paintings. Regrettablely, Master Kwang passed away a year later and he had left a will: “Learn and create good artworks!”

Traditional Chinese Calligraphy and Painting are not just visual arts for showing skills and the scenery. They are rather about the philosophy behind which is challenging to understand and recognize. These special arts are our Chinese culture and treasure having their own ways to be inherited and to be developed. Over the last 22 years, I have learned calligraphy and paintings by the traditional methods and inherited the freehand brushwork. In the last few years I have started pursuing the unification of my own styles in calligraphy, painting, seal carving and writing, especially in a quiet, solemn, natural and harmonious way. Life is limited, but art has no limits.

I am not a poet or an author, but as soon as I have an inspiration, I enjoy writing poems, essays and stories. I call them “Writings for Artworks”.

“Water Drop” is my artist name, it originates from the Chinese idiom ShuiDiShiChuan, translated “constant dripping water wears through the rock”, (English idiom “little strokes fell great oaks”). I encourage myself and give myself strength to overcome all difficulties.

Art has no boundaries. I designed and created this website in order to share my artworks with art lovers and hope they can also bring pleasure to you.
